Gallery Dept on USFans Spreadsheet
Tees and denim carry this USFans Spreadsheet hub. The flare jeans and flared sweatpants are the cuts the label is known for, with hand-lettered tees, shirts, shorts, hoodies and a tracksuit around them.
The flares sit in pants, the shorts in shorts, both on the USFans Spreadsheet.
Flares, hand-lettering and what varies
The grid holds Gallery Dept jeans and flare jeans, flared sweatpants, plain pants, shorts, shirts, tees in single and bulk listings, a hoodie, a longsleeve hoodie and a tracksuit. Small, but the flares are the reason to look.
Measuring a flare like an ordinary trouser produces the wrong answer, which is the practical thing to know before ordering. These open sharply from the knee down and are drafted long on purpose so the hem stacks and breaks over a shoe. Copy the inseam from a straight-leg pair in your wardrobe and the result will read cropped rather than intentional — add a couple of centimetres instead. The flared sweatpant applies the same line in fleece and is the gentler introduction of the two.
The awkward part of judging this label is that its defects are its features. Paint splatter, hand-drawn logos, bleach marks and raw hems are all supposed to look unrepeatable, which means a photograph that differs from the listing image is not evidence of anything by itself. Judge the register instead of the detail: is the splatter roughly as dense, are the colours from the same family, does the treatment land in the same zones of the garment. Then be strict about exactly one thing — the lettering. It should be irregular the way the reference is irregular, not irregular in some new direction, and the ink should have soaked into the cotton rather than sitting on it like a sheet of plastic.
